Pre and Post Care: Tox Treatment

TREATMENT EXPECTATIONS: NEUROMODULATOR (NEUROTOXIN / TOX) INJECTION RECOVERY TIME

  • Redness and bumps typically subside 5-30 minutes after treatment.

  • Possible bruising can last a few days.

RESULTS

  • Tox gradually takes effect starting day 2-3 after treatment for most neuromodulators.

  • Full results seen at 2-3 weeks following treatment.

  • Dosing varies and will impact longevity of results.

  • The higher the dose, the longer it lasts.

  • Average length of effects last about three months.

  • Exercising shortens the duration of the medication effect.

  • Effects peak over time and then slowly taper down to re-dose again.

Before Care Instructions

Avoid Medications & Supplements (7-10 Days Before):

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or other NSAIDs.

  • Avoid supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, garlic, ginseng, and ginkgo biloba as they may increase bruising.

Avoid Alcohol (24-48 Hours Before):

  • Alcohol can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising at injection sites.

Stay Hydrated:

  • Drink plenty of water before your appointment for optimal skin health.

Consider Zinc Supplementation:

  • Taking zinc citrate (50 mg daily) may potentially prolong the effects of botulinum toxin by up to 30%, as zinc is a cofactor for botulinum toxin's effectiveness.

No Makeup on the Treatment Area:

  • Arrive with a clean face to reduce the risk of infection.

Avoid Certain Treatments:

  • Refrain from facials, waxing, or laser treatments near the injection area for at least 1 week prior.

Notify Your Provider:

  • Inform your provider of any medical conditions, allergies, or recent illnesses.

  • Let them know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.

After Care Instructions

Avoid Lying Down (6 Hours After):

  • Stay upright to prevent the toxin from migrating to unintended areas.

  • Sleep on your back at bedtime.

No Touching or Massaging:

  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours.

Avoid Exercise (24 Hours After):

  • Intense physical activity can increase blood flow and potentially affect results.

Skip Heat Exposure:

  • Avoid saunas, hot tubs, sunbathing, or any heat-related activity for 24-48 hours.

No Alcohol or Blood Thinners (24 Hours After):

  • Continue avoiding alcohol and medications that may increase bruising.

Resume Skincare Gently:

  • Avoid aggressive skincare products (e.g., retinoids, AHAs, or BHAs) for 24 hours.

Consider Treatment Enhancements:

  • Facials can help strengthen the skin beneath the treated muscles by improving circulation, hydration, and collagen production, which supports overall skin health and elasticity.

  • Regular facials, especially Hydrafacials, can deeply cleanse and hydrate the skin, improving texture and boosting collagen production. This creates a smoother surface, enhancing the effects of botulinum toxin.

  • Microneedling improves skin elasticity and firmness by stimulating collagen and elastin production. It complements botulinum toxin treatments by addressing skin tone and texture, ensuring a radiant, even complexion.

Follow-Up Appointment:

  • A follow-up appointment is essential 2 weeks after your treatment to assess your results and make any necessary adjustments. This ensures that the treatment achieves your desired outcome while maintaining balance and symmetry.

  • Note: If additional doses are needed beyond what is included in the paid package or membership, there will be an additional fee for these doses.

Be Patient with Results:

  • Effects may take 3-7 days to appear fully and up to 14 days for optimal results.

  • Do not love or hate anything for 14 days while the tox is settling.

Watch for Adverse Effects:

  • Mild redness, swelling, or bruising is normal and resolves within a few days.

  • Contact your provider immediately if you experience significant pain, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, or breathing issues.
